In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in San Francisco; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in California are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.
The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 12β9 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. San Francisco is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around San Francisco is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

The food was ok. I feel like it gets high rating because of you give it 5 stars then you get free items so beware. The dried garlic noodles was bland and over cooked with no flavor. The soup dumplings was super fatty. The best thing was probably the string beans but it was a slightly over salted. I wouldnt come back again. Definitely a one time experience.

Dumpling story is traditional dumplings at a medium price point. One of the nicer interiors in the mission. I ordered the xiao long bao, shengjian bao, jellyfish salad, and lamb curry boiled dumplings. The standout dish was definitely the lamb curry boiled dumplingsβthe curry flavor worked surprisingly well with the dumpling filling and made it the most memorable item of the meal. The xiao long bao were solid, with flavorful broth and filling. The shengjian bao were good as well, although I remember the bottoms being crispier the last time I had them. The jellyfish salad is worth trying if you're looking for something a little unusual. It has a light, refreshing texture and flavor that almost feels vegetarian despite being a seafood dish. Service was efficient, and the ambiance was pleasant. The restaurant is one of the nicer dining spots in the Mission District and has a comfortable, modern atmosphere. Overall, I enjoyed the meal, but I probably won't return. When I'm in the mood for dumplings, I'd rather visit Dumpling Home or Din Tai Fung instead.

Simply sublime When a steamed dumpling oozes richness and provides instant dopamine, you know youβre in for a treat. The noodles had a freshness and texture that one can only dreams about eating again. Highly recommend ~

Pretty solid takeout Chinese food! I wonder what the Dan Dan noodles wouldβve tasted in the restaurant with everything mixed in, as I found it a little dry and lacking flavor. The dumplings were great, the green beans couldβve used more spice too.

We had dinner at Dumpling Story on Friday with a big group, and it was a huge hit. We ordered tons of steamed and pan-fried dumplings, and every single one was to die forβflavorful, juicy, and perfectly cooked. Surprisingly, my favorite dish of the night was the green beans. They were so good I didnβt even manage to get a photo before they were gone. Definitely donβt skip them. This spot is ideal for groups: the menu is perfect for sharing, the food comes out quickly, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. My only small complaint is that they donβt give you napkins to keep on your lapβand since dumplings can get pretty messy, I definitely left with a few souvenirs on my pants. Minor messiness aside, this is a fantastic place for a casual, delicious dinner, and Iβd happily go back again (next time armed with extra napkins).
